Our suppliers shrink their lithography every year, just like Intel does, and with that goes support for the lower density chips. We did not willfully turn off support for over 10K systems in our on-line database because we wanted to let down our loyal customers. I personally fought to keep these alive as long as I could. If we could continue to support legacy technology, we absolutely would. Kingston is one of the largest buyers of DRAM in the world from these three. Your OptiPlex 780 was released in 2009 when there were 6+ DRAM semiconductors in the world outputting memory chips. I think everyone understands your frustration, but please be fair. Kingston has consciously decided to let all of its loyal customers down, and that's shameful and pathetic. Larry, when you have computers that are 1 year old to 3 years old that you can't get memory for from a company whose mission is to supply aftermarket memory, that's when I have a problem. That's how it is, across the entire tech industry. Companies discontinue parts all the time, moving forward into new markets or just replacing old tech with new. You are pathetic.I'm not sure I understand this viewpoint. I can't even express how disappointed I am in Kingston at this moment.

My disposition towards Kingston has done a complete 180. So, everyone who has counted on Kingston ValueRAM over the years is up the creek without a paddle. They told me that they were happy to give up this business to their competition. I hope you will find it in your heart to forgive us, and understand that it's not really our fault.Īfter speaking to a Kingston rep, I can tell you that Kingston is leaving the memory market for anything that's not compatible with 4Gb memory chip architecture. They sometimes get excess legacy stock from their parent company Micron.īest luck to you.
#Optiplex 780 pc3 10600 memory update#
We have seen instances where their engineers have had the option to update the code in the OptiPlex to support 4Gb DRAM.Ī second option would be to locate these parts through eBay or Amazon Marketplace, where some resellers unload legacy stock.Ī third option might be to see if our friends at Crucial have this density still supported. One solution you might try is contacting Dell. I'm saddened that you are shaming and blaming Kingston, whom you have been a loyal supporter of for many years (thank you), for something that is out of our hands. All chipsets from P67 forward support 4Gb density DRAM. Intel, in their quest to move technology forward, did not program support for 4Gb density chips in their Q45 chipset. Two years ago they phased out 2Gb density chips in favor of 4Gb. There are only three major DRAM semiconductors left in the world, and they are all chasing Moore's Law and profitability, which means legacy technology gets left behind. I'm not sure who you spoke with, but unfortunately that is the state of the DRAM market today.

More wrong.Įdited by RhymesWithDell, 15 July 2016 - 06:42 PM.I'm very sorry to hear your frustration with not finding the memory you need for this OptiPlex 780. Someone saId it does support 10600 after an update to bios A30. You see, 1066mhz is actually PC-8500, however they list PC3-10600. It's the one that takes the low profile graphics cards! (Yes, I think there may actually be a difference, as that is the simplest explanation for confusion, also different size dells do use different motherboards and have differing memory limits!)
#Optiplex 780 pc3 10600 memory crack#
If someone has a Dell Optiplex 780 sff and can crack it open for me to look inside or lives in western NC and has a stick of each, even if 256mb keychain-fob worthy, I would appreciate it. As it was, still lost over $17 for the 3 day shipping & return label for RAM combined. I have & a set of GSkill Ripjaws recommended by the 'tech specialists' at Newegg that I had to RMA for a refund, and the Google Trusted Stores consumer protection intervened to knock off the 15% restock fee, otherwise would have eaten a $35 loss to beta test the set on my system. I have already tried PC3-10600 which supposedly works after a bios update according to one source, and was recommended by one memory scanner. I know that I need either PC3-8500 1066mhz or PC3-12800 1600mhz ram will work.
